5.18.12

The mp3s are nearly ready! We are as a matter of fact right now uploading them and preparing download codes. So you may begin holding your breath, depending on how good at that you are.

In further Kickstarter-related news, we have at last begun recording our first cover tunes for the Under Cover pledge. Audio and video are being edited now on the first batch. We're back in the studio on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week for more. After that, MSR MANIA. You heard us, Howard.

4.9.12

Just a note - the mall show this weekend will not be happening. Apparently the promoter has been instructed only to book Spanish language music on Sundays. We told him we could just do an extended version of "Mi NiƱa Bonita" but to no avail. So look for us there later this summer.

Another thing - if you pledged for the "Take Cover" reward on Kickstarter, let us know what song you want us to play for you. Go on, right now. Tell us.

4.2.12

OK, we made it. Thanks everybody! Now the labor of love begins, or continues. The songs have been sent off for mastering. The LP & CD sleeves & t-shirts are being designed. We've hired a chef & masseuse. We'll keep you in the loop.

2.29.12

Happy Leap Day, everybody! Our Kickstarter campaign has just launched, and is off to a rollicking start. If it succeeds we'll be able to get this 4-sided beast mastered & manufactured, and with the help of our new pals at Squid vs. Whale, out to the masses. Details promised in the last post can be found there, there are a slew of fun rewards to be had, and if you watch the video there's a sneak of one of the new recordings. Stop by when you get a second.

2.21.12

An 11th-hour chance encounter has resulted in some very good news: our new 23-track album, to be titled "Freeway Special", has found a warm and friendly home on Squid vs. Whale. Details to follow shortly. We mean it.

1.17.12

Happy belated New Year everybody! Hope it's going well for you. This is the year that will finally see the release of our new double album, six years in the making. That's a bit of an exaggeration but it sounds impressive. Look for it in April, and check back in a week for an opportunity to get your hands on an advance copy.

By the way, we are part of an excellent bill next Tuesday at the Bootleg with Tommy Keene. That's right, Tommy Keene! Tommy Keene, ladies and gentlemen! Owens Valley Dynamite opens the show. Make sure you don't miss it!

10.7.11

So what's going on with the record? Well, there are some new plans afoot which we will keep you abreast of anon. Just know that the record is mixed, along with a few singles, including one that at last features Brian and Jacob in their roles as lethal musical agents. By the way, if you like the song VIP600, the band that wrote that song is coming to L.A. on 10/14, and we're playing with them. Check it out.

8.4.11

Hey, if you couldn't make the art opening, here's some video of it for you.

7.1.11

As you may know, Andy recently joined the Papercuts for a June European tour. Also, Big Search opened some of the shows. Pretty hot stuff. Here are a few vids and pics if you're interested: pics - vid1 - vid2 Anyway, now he's back and so are we. We've got some very cool stuff coming up, including the Summertime Rocks fest in Felton, an art opening at Aaron's framing shop, The Le Switch farewell show, and an Echo Park house party. If you know what you're doing, you'll just come to the free ones.

4.18.11

Holy smokes the record is all mixed. If anyone wants to help out with a video, hit us up.

2.17.11

Hey look: Big Mouth strikes again. And again.

Also, we've got a show coming up next Tuesday with our pals The Western States Motel and Andrew Lynch. Tony plays trumpet again! New tunes! Don't miss it.

12.28.10

Hey everybody, we've got our first headlining appearance at The Satellite (formerly Spaceland) on Weds Jan 5, with The Spires. It would mean the world if you would attend. The Spires are an amazing band from Ventura & they will delight you, as will we.

Send an email to rian@ipromotegoodbands.com to get on the 5 dollar list. Or, if you're feeling lazy, send us an email & we'll take care of it for you. Are you sure you're totally comfortable? Perhaps an extra pillow?

12.14.10

For those of you enquiring after the progress of the record - there has been some. A lot really. It's almost done, in fact. And we think we've hit on a satisfying solution to the single/double conundrum. Please stay tuned; it won't be much longer.

Another thing: our pals The Monolators recently released an outstanding double EP and are hosting a month-long residency at LaBrie's simultaneously in Glendale and January. We'll be there, on Jan 25. Get the EP if you want some actually good music.

09.05.10

Welcome to the new website! Have some fun. The "peep" and "links" links will be active soon. Just keep hitting refresh, 3 times a day.

Now friends, the rumors you may have heard are not baseless: The Parson Red Heads are skipping town, permanently, in favor of their original home Portland, Oregon. They're having two farewell shows, and we'll be sharing the stage with them at the first one - Friday September 17th at Spaceland. It's gonna be a real scene.

Related Q & A:

Q: What is The World Record going to do now?

A: You may have noticed that Ross & Brian from The Broken West, Wheelhouse, and Brothers in the Grass have been filling for Evan & Sam a lot this year. Or maybe you didn't notice, but you should probably do a little research before you go asking questions like that willy-nilly.

Q: What about the upcoming show - are Evan & Sam really going to be banned from the band at their own farewell show?

A: Calm down. They'll be sitting in on several songs at this celebratory yet melancholy occasion. This is going to be the last time you'll be seeing them for a while, so try to remain positive.

Q: When are you going to finish your new record?

A: Shortly.

06.30.10

what we've been doing, apart from playing the odd show, touring with and as the Parson Red Heads, and appearing as the house band for When You Awake's Tribute to the Beach Boys, is recording. basic tracks are done for all tunes (current count is 26). a little singing, some percussion, a little mixing, some gypsy hexes to work off, one whole song to redo, and we're done.

by the way there are a couple shows this month. have a look-see.

02.24.10

you can't say you weren't warned. the sale is a thing of the past. however, as a sort of consolation prize, mp3s are now available at the own page. They're 320 kbps ultra-super-rockin style and cheap too. go ahead.

02.16.10

so, as many of you have noticed (and taken advantage of), the CD sale has not yet ended. But it will, honestly, quite soon. It's just been a bit busy for us.

One of the things keeping us from our housework is the upcoming Sloan show (click to get your tix). Sam & Evan are out of town, so Brian & Ross from The Broken West are stepping in on drums & 2nd guitar respectively. We're very grateful. See you Sunday.

01.07.10

happy new year, people! two things:

1) the CD sale is still on! you have thru the end of january to grab what you can and no regrets.

2) we're kicking off the year by closing out the Spaceland on Ice series at the Pershing Square Ice Rink downtown. click on 'see' for more details and a poster.

11.25.09

dear friends - we're having a CD sale. just in time for the holidays, all CD prices are discounted, and some tantalizing bundles are available for the adventurous.

visit the OWN page and grab yourself some deals!

if this goes well, we're going to suggest it to other websites all over the world!

11.20.09

tonight is When You Awake tribute show #2 - Neil Young. andy's back on drums for the Dark Horse House Band. the show starts at 9pm at the Bootleg Theater.

in other news, turns out the George Harrison tribute was recorded in its entirety and can be downloaded by individual songs or clump-style right here. go git some songs! (you have to scroll down a bit, but those that persevere will be rewarded.)

9.28.09

"we're #1" will appear on gossip girl tonight. finally we have a use for those "as heard on gossip girl" stickers we made.

Also, videos are up from the George Harrison tribute show. Check them out.

9.10.09

come to spaceland this saturday and see andy play drums in the Dark Horse House Band at the George Harrison Tribute charity show. the other 4 in the band are: Brian Whelan, Josh Charney, Eugene Edwards, and John Hos(p)kinson. we're backing up some singers and playing some on our own. there will be other guests as well. just look at that poster.

7.27.09

had to post again as the last post makes no sense without the accompanying visual, which had expired. in other news, we've relocated to the second bedroom for recording purposes, and have begun to reap the rewards of recording without traveling. had to get the air conditioning problem sorted out, and cut down the volunteer cat pee bush (volunteer cats and volunteer bush), but now seriously and at last we can resume our plan of world domination.

7.15.09

so sam is definitely the wildcat. we're thinking aaron is the drunken hippie frog (whiskey). andy might be the monkey, or the dinosaur with the mohawk. evan should be the big dinosaur, but really he's more like the frog at the piano. so head up to ben lomond this weekend for the free Summertime Rocks Festival, and see these animals perform LIVE! bring food & drinks. bring a tent. leave the attitude.

5.12.09

time she's a fly. let's see. we're up on twitter and facebook et al. been playing and recording a bunch. it's all going to culminate in unimaginable joy very soon. please come see us this friday at spaceland!

2.13.09

happy valentimes tomorrow! we've been and continue to be at red rockets glare studio where we are recording for our brand new recorded output. things are proceeding most satisfactorily! also - come to the air conditioned supper club in venice on march 1st for the first night of AC Indie! click 'see' above to see.

12.23.08

ok, a couple things. back in september we visited red rockets glare studio to videotape a session for groupee.com. it's been posted. go check it out and write a snide comment. note: be sure first to hit the stop button on the song player, which automatically plays the "featured track" (not us). next: though we couldn't squeeze any in at the end of '08, there are a couple upcoming shows for early '09. please choose with care which you'd like to attend.

10.13.08

hello friends. we're busy demoing some new tunes, getting ready to record the next long-player. ideas are flying back and forth like cowchips. it's an exciting time. we'd like to squeeze in one or two more shows before year's end too. we'll see what happens.

8.19.08

lookout! we're gonna play On March St.

7.21.08

we've got a new pal evan way picking up 2nd guitar and keyboard duties for us. come witness the unveiling at le switch's cd release show at the echo in august. more details soon.

5.27.08

here's a huge thank-you to everyone who stuck around so late for our set at the echo last night. we were wrong in our last posting about that other show being the best show ever.

4.21.08

the laffghanistan music is done. we'll let you know when you can see it. in the meantime, please help us welcome our chicago pals frisbie to l.a. this saturday. we're sharing the stage with them at crane's - see the flyer to the left. they are awesome and we're feeling pretty good ourselves. it's going to be the best show ever.

3.01.08

hello dears! thanks for all the concerned emails. they are really appreciated. appearances to the contrary, we are alive and quite well; just very busy right now, at work on the soundtrack to a feature-length documentary called "laffghanistan", about comedian graham elwood's 1st trip to afghanistan to do standup comedy for the troops. it's quite a remarkable bunch of footage. we hope you like the music. keep your eyes peeled, and we'll endeavor to drop in with updates much more frequently.

9.22.07

as you may have noticed, we're gradually updating our website. the best part is that you can now spin 'guitars forever' in its entirety by clicking on 'spin' above. and presumably you can write us a note with our new spiffy form. please do both immediately. happy birthday Laura!

8.20.07

drummer woes. as you may have noticed, we recently parted ways with our longtime drummer Randy. our search for a replacement has begun in earnest, and will be televised live on "Bang The Drum Quickly", a TV Guide Channel reality entry. since people believe everything they read, we should mention that this is not true. but not about the drummer, so if you know someone who's up for the task, please send them our way. honorable mention must be made regarding our good friend and confidant mike schadel, who has been doing an admirable and amiable job sitting in in the meantime.

6.19.07

our Tallboy Records debut 'guitars forever' got a national release today. go down the street to the record store and insist that they sell you a copy in spite of your previous behavior.

3.22.07

coupla things - we spent an evening at red rockets glare studios recently, where we recorded the basic tracks for a new tune. it's called 'black canyon range'. if you can locate the black canyon range on a map, we'll give you an mp3 of the song when it's done. just email us. if you're wrong of course, well then you'll have to give us an mp3 instead. so be careful.

in other exciting news, andy will be playing the bass in let's go sailing for the next few weeks as they make their way around these united states, opening for elvis perkins. the dates are available wherever fine music is sold. try myspace.

2.21.07

hey we're back in l.a. and glad to be here. special thanks to the broken west for the welcome home spot at the spaceland residency. come out to ventura this weekend and root for us as we take on los paranoiaz at the red cove. they'll win. they always win.

10.19.06

well, as the hiatus nears its end we have some very happy news to share: our song "we're #1" will be appearing in the CBS comedy how i met your mother this monday, oct 23rd at 8pm. keep your television on and warm so you don't miss it. you do that anyway, we know, but we're just saying. PS we know we promised, but sometimes bands lie. it's a life lesson.

7.14.06

we're opening for toad the wet sprocket in santa barbara on july 27. it's a benefit for the santa barbara rape crisis center. check the shows page for deets.

7.10.06

hey we're up on itunes. not sure when that happened, but happy to be there. thanks, rolotomasi and anonymous. currently booking a midwest tour, so look for us in october if you consider yourself in that area. also, there are nyc shows coming. promise.

5.26.06

did you enjoy the cupcakes? did you enjoy the cake? we did. we've got one and a half more appearances for you before we go on a little summer break. yes, andy knows how stupid it is to leave the west coast for the summer. but it has to be done. so, on june 1st please check in with sunsetstrip.com, where andy will be playing a solo acoustic set (aaron has to work & randy is on tour). then, on sunday the 4th head down to sea level records for an in-store performance, our last in the west for a little while.

4.15.06

ok, the cds are finally here! please, take one. our cd release show is coming up, plus more. look! busy, busy, busy.

4.01.06

3 shows this month - probably one near you! Go here to end the suspense.

3.10.06

OK people the cd is off to the pressing plant at last. Thanks Anna from Tallboy for her patience. The lyrics are already available right there. Go ahead, indulge in the decadence of our lyrics.

2.01.06

Here's a photo from the show: Church of Rock

1.27.06

Welcome to '06 people. We're starting the year by playing a school benefit. This will provide us with the good karma we need to make through at least the next 3 months.

1.01.06

Hey check out our Masters of the Hemisphere cover - it's out & available right here.

11.6.05

Andy joins the Annie Hayden tour in Tucson on the 8th, playing bass guitar. She's on tour with The Clientele. They're playing L.A. on Friday the 11th at the Knitting Factory, and then up and across these United States. Visit Merge Records for the full tour itinemerary. Come to a show and say hello. The new Annie Hayden record "The Enemy of Love" is completely excellent, and you can spin it here, if you like.

10.15.05

"Architectural Response to War" and "The City Moving", Andy's sound/image collaborations with his brother Robert, can now be streamed here and here, respectively. They may take a while to load, but it's worth it.

9.25.05

The World Record has recorded two cover songs for two compilations:

The first is a version of Eminem's immortal all-time super Oscar-Award winning juggernaut "Lose Yourself", which will appear on a tribute being released by Vitamin Records. Not sure when it's coming out, but their last one, "Indie Translations of the College Dropout" (Kanye West) is a fun off-kilter affair. Keep your eyes peelt.

The second is a song by a band that will always be dear to our hearts, the Masters of the Hemisphere. The song, "She Plays Guitar", appeared on their first record, and has long been one of our favorites. It won out over "Billy Mitchell" from the same record, but it was a close call. A Bunch of Beatniks Riding a Rocket will be releasing it web-only when all the submissions are in, which will be in a while we presume.

8.2.05

We've just returned from another trip to the Midwest, with much happiness and residual humidity in our hearts. It was humid. The best stop was Minneapolis, where we played twice in one night, adding the 12:15 slot at the Hexagon at the last minute. Of course it turned out to be one of our favorite spots (big thanks Chris Dorn & Anna Borg), though the Fine Line was nice too. Special thanks to the David Brent-esque leader of Vertigo Joe, for telling us the way it is.

We are extremely pleased to be able to announce that Tallboy Records will be releasing Guitars Forever. We'll post more details as they appear to us in our nightly seances.

There are 3 shows this month - click on see for the latest information.

5.4.05

Just back from the SMD tour. We pressed up a new EP for the occasion, the "SMDEP", with some more songs that are not to be released on the full-length. But after some careful consideration we have deemed one of the new songs worthy of inclusion, so now we've got to pick the one it's going to replace. The record is still going to be too long but you'll just have to tough it.

4.1.05

Guitars Forever is ready! It is alive and well and living in... That's a Jethro Tull joke. Oh now you get it. Anyway it will be released in a little while. We assure you the wait will have been worth it. Now we're off to the east. We hope our absence will make your hearts grow fonder. If not then it was nice knowing you.

We're #1  (Creighton)

Aaron Ballard - bass, vocals, claps
Randy Guss - drums
Ted Schumacher - trumpet
Andy Creighton - vocals, gtr, claps, some drums
Recorded at the practice space

Thank you for the invitation
We're sure your show will be very nice
Gonna see if we can make it but hey maybe
We can offer you some advice

No, we're not trying to talk down at you
It's from the goodness of the whole of our heart
But we can tell just by looking at you
That you better quit before you start

In the meantime I need some mean time
To wipe out any good will building up

Check the score, we're #1
Turn 'round now back where you're from
Wrote this tune, soon everyone's gonna
Check the score and see that we're #1

Yeah you make a decent stand-in
Typically boring of course
And anyone who asks yeah well we feel
We've got to give them our full report

In the meantime I need some mean time
To break down the defenses of our enemies

Check the score, we're #1
Turn 'round now back where you're from
Wrote this tune, soon everyone's gonna
Check the score and see that we're #1

One less person in dress rehearsal
One less hopeless dreamer

Check the score, we're #1
Turn 'round now back where you're from
Wrote this tune, soon everyone's gonna
Check the score and see that we're #1

Gtrs4ever  (Creighton)

Andy Creighton - instruments & vocals
Recorded at the practice space

All this sunny attitude walks the line
To foreign places that you can't find
Something else is calling, you're left behind

Lonely silhouettes stand on the pier
Only cardboard cutouts as you draw near
Something else is calling, I'll leave you here

Out on the sand there's someone waiting
Guitar in hand, won't stop complaining
Debating if there's anything in this world worth saving

It's getting kinda tough to get noticed here
Where the sideshows constantly interfere
Something else is calling, it's drawing near

So travel out beyond where the cement dissolves
Plant your feet and feel the world revolve
Something else is calling so take the call

We toiled up the ridge when we heard the chord
And the setting sun revealed a reward
A vast expanse of promise, pain, and perfect summers

We'll move inside when it gets hotter
My California sons and daughters
A lovely place with board games and the best bands playing
Guitars forever

Fall upon your knees and kiss the earth

Serious  (Creighton)

Will Courtney - gtr, vocals
Ted Schumacher - trumpet
Andy Creighton - vocals, gtr, bass, drums
Recorded at the practice space
s.m.d.e.p. version is pre-trumpet!

Low riding in a red el dorado
Just a kid under all the bravado
Top down with a half avocado
In headphones looking like mr roboto

Admiration was on full display wow
You were doing things in a new way now
Gathered 'round and we all heard you say how
Everybody's always wearing their stay out

Oh go tell your movers
We are the losers
As the horizon swallows you whole

Shook your fist at the sun, that's enough, stop
Sitting sizzling on the bench at the bus stop
That's about the time you knew that it must stop
Telegram said if you think this is tough stop

Don't matter who's here
See you at new year's
Don't matter who's here

Stop stop disappearing
No it's ok, do what you must now
I'm giving up on what hasn't been
And I feel a fade to serious now

It's gonna be a while before I can get free
I'm busy doing things that I don't care to be
It's gonna be a while before I can make it out
I'm stuck here doing things that I don't care about

Stop stop disappearing
No it's ok, do what you must now
I'm giving up on what hasn't been
And I feel a fade to serious now
It makes me sad...
It makes me fade, I feel a fade to serious now

Get Up, Star  (Creighton)

Andy Creighton - instruments & vocals
Recorded at the practice space

Get up star
It's time to find what you are
You're gonna knock 'em down
You're not messing around
But these are longer days
When all you want is to play

Get up star
I'm gonna find what you are
You're gonna tip your hand
Show me what you planned
But there's no way
When all you want is to play
Just bear down

Get up D
Come on, get up D
It's a mystery but it's easy

You just bear down, bear down
Bear down, sink down
Sink beneath, a slow decay
Pillow softly giving way
Making sure it's gonna be ok
No matter what they say
But they say bear down, bear down, bear down kid

And get up star
I finally found what you are
You just knocked 'em down
With the best sound around
Don't rely on me
'Cause you got all that you need

See Saw Swell  (Creighton)

Andy Creighton - instruments & vocals
Drums, bass recorded at Andy Shigekawa's house
Finished at the practice space

The hands move 'round
The groundskeeper keeps the ground
My heart beats up and down but mostly down
I was sheltering a note containing everything
A missive that was intercepted by the referee

On a see saw swell
I'm not well
When she kicks so hard
I fall too far

The word gets 'round
Keep ear to playground
The letter grown to legend
With the author in detention
And there she stands
Impatient look, extended hand
I'll acquiesce to her demands because she can demand

On a see saw swell
I'm not well
When she kicks so hard
I fall too far

We're on the see saw
And I guess she likes to make me feel afraid
Have you ever seen
The way girls drag stuffed animals by the leg
Have you ever seen
A bulldog dressed in high heels and a bra
That's not the limit of humiliation
Here on the see saw

See saw swell, I'm not well

Well there she stands
Impatient look, extended hand
I'll acquiesce to her demands because she can demand

On a see saw swell
I'm not well
When she kicks so hard
I fall too far
On a see saw swell
I can't tell
It's a brand new life
On a see saw swell

You Were There Too  (Creighton)

Andy Creighton - instruments & vocals
Drums, piano recorded at Andy Shigekawa's house
Finished at the practice space

I won't tell what you told
I won't share what I know
I will grow old and no one will know
No one will know

And the mice in the walls
Bating breath heard it all
And chased down the hall
But I caught them all
Yeah I stopped them all

Ha ha ha

Going down incomplete
Had a dream, fell asleep
My teeth came unglued
And you were there too
You were there too

So take your time take a breath
A fractured mind needs a rest
And you were the best, you were the best
You were the best

Take your time take a breath
A fractured mind needs a rest
And you were

You were pressed against the outside in the gloom
Looking through into a room
Reaching rays between the shutter gates
To catch you in that state of mind

Not a bid for sympahty
Driving out of the city
I've got your heart
I want on top
Tear you apart

Runolf & Mary /
Run Off & Marry
  (Creighton)

Andy Creighton - instruments & vocals
Recorded at the practice space (both versions)

So bored, the atmosphere could swallow me up
Made plans, contemplating not showing up
Think I can figure out what I'm gonna get
Perfect in all but one important aspect

Maybe you begin to mess around
I leave you crying like a lonesome hound
The candle wax will fill the tabletop
But just say it, say it, oh but just say it

It's not what it seems, we're compelled to move forward
In miserablese this is only the foreword
We've got 90 days so come on let's not dawdle
Let's run off and marry, let's bury our troubles

Went out for want of something better to do
Sucked in by the fact that you were sucked in too
Somehow my friends have got me calling you up
Say no, 'cause if you don't it won't ever stop

Maybe you begin to mess around
I leave you crying like a lonesome hound
The candle wax will fill the tabletop
But just say it, say it, oh but just say it

It's not what it seems, we're compelled to move forward
In miserablese this is only the foreword
We've got 90 days till the chemicals stop flowing
Let's run off and marry in spite of what we're both knowing

Maybe you begin to mess around
I'll leave you crying like a lonesome hound
The candle wax will fill the tabletop
And there'll be no one there to clean it up
We'll figure out that we have had enough
We'll figure out how to divide our stuff
We'll keep on talking too and never stop
But just say it, say it, come on and just say it

It's not what it seems, we're compelled to move forward
In miserablese this is only the foreword
We've got 90 days till the chemicals wear out
Let's run off and marry and then tear our hair out

Watch Out For Love  (Creighton)

Andy Creighton - instruments & vocals
Recorded at the practice space

You think you're ready
You think you've grown up
Watch out for love
You think you're prepared to accept
Another person's view of the world
Watch out for love

You're ready to open up
You're ready to change your ways
You're ready to stop seeing your friends

So you woke up with butterflies
You'd better take a few days
Watch out for love
It's no surprise, it's been a while
And you had your guard down anyway
Watch out for love

You're ready to start again
You're ready to get it right
You're ready to get it wrong in completely new ways

Yes, yes

You met someone special
You want to be sure
So get on the phone and ask...
Do you like movies
Do you like museums
Do you like dancing
Do you like video games
Do you like singing loud in the car
Do you like pets
Do you like music
Do you like seeing your friend's band play
Do you like driving nowhere
Do you like ice cream
You're still a beginner
You'll always be a beginner
But take a chance
Try not to hurt anybody
And watch out

Cross Your Fingers  (Creighton)

Andy Creighton - instruments & vocals
Recorded at the practice space

Oceans are small
And I want to see the lights fall
Strip away pretend
Wash away everything

I'm taking everybody down if I go down
You won't catch me thinking of no one
I want everybody here just to know that
You'd better cross your fingers for me

Stuck on the interstate
High up on stilts that break
Underneath a monoxide blanket
We seek relief but cannot take it

I'm taking everybody down if I go down
You won't catch me thinking of no one
I want everybody here just to know that
You'd better cross your fingers for me

We won't be here again, understand
As I take it further than I had planned
We'll stare into the burning sky

I'm taking everybody down if I go down
You won't catch me thinking of no one
I want everybody here just to know that
You'd better cross your fingers for me

Cosmetic  (Creighton)

Andy Creighton - instruments & vocals
Recorded at the practice space

I've taken all, all I can take
I'm ankle deep in you
Fallen into tiny pieces on the floor
It's such a bore
I'm sweeping up around your writing desk
The stapler sits in the middle of it all
It is a symbol of all my struggles

Every day you leave me here with nothing else
Solvent bottle and a rag that's supposed to help
And all that I can do is cosmetic
Tomorrow it will be the same

I thought we talked about your habit
Taking things out, never putting them away
Am I just a slave? Be careful now
In all these books, so much wisdom
And you caress every page but I'm ignored
To say that I'm bored is understatement

Every day you leave me here with nothing else
Solvent bottle and a rag that's supposed to help
And all that I can do is cosmetic
Tomorrow it will be the same

Mabel, you're taking too long
You've got three more offices to do on this floor
Mabel, keep your mind on your work
Sometimes I don't know what we're paying you for

I dug around, look what I found
Romantic note in another person's hand
Well isn't that grand
The truth is out
I've taken all, all I can take
And you could eat off every surface
I can do nothing more for you
I'm out the door

Every day you leave me here with nothing else
There are others in the world who could use my help
Oh all I ever do is cosmetic
Tomorrow I'll be back again

Advance  (Creighton)

Andy Creighton - guitar & vocals
Recorded at the practice space

One two three
Advance on the grave with me
Everybody

Webster Letter  (Creighton)

Andy Creighton - instruments & vocals
Recorded at the practice space
except backwards gtr taken from a previous
version recorded at Andy Shigekawa's house

Bouncing down the steps
This far from a mess
Staying up on fumes, not depressed
Kid siamachy
It's addressed to me
I see what you mean, but

You don't impress me
With the big words
In your webster letter
No, you don't impress me
With the big words
In your webster letter

High reality, come crashing in on me
And I don't really need reminders
You call me mr saturnine
What's that even mean
You don't impress me, no

You don't impress me
With the big words
In your webster letter
No, you don't impress me
With the big words
In your webster letter

It's a monition to a moke she says to me
That's on page 23
And I'm the one accused of apostasy
We might as well be speaking different tongues

You don't impress me
You don't impress me
With the big words
In your webster letter
No, you don't impress me
With the big words
In your webster letter
Oh, take it down from the shelf
Comb through the words
All by yourself, what I deserve
Take care in every line like it matters
It might matter in another world, not here
You don't impress me with your big words

On March St  (Creighton)

Andy Creighton - instruments & vocals
Recorded at Andy Shigekawa's house
Add'l recording at the practice space

Fading light
Long shadows
On March Street
All around
The grownups
Play dress up
Traffic noise
And voices
Grow distant

Studying a menu in a restaurant window
Leaning in close to decide whether you'll go
And plenty of time on March Street
On March Street

Warm and snug inside
Eavesdrop on another booth
And laugh at the punchline
Avoid each other's eyes
Forks and knives
The check arrives

Holding hands saying wait for a minute
Breeze picks up and you find yourself in it
Caressed from all sides on March Street
Staying out walking on not sure where you're heading
Everything feels just like the beginning
With plenty of time on March Street
On March Street

Marianas T  (Creighton)

Andy Creighton - instruments & vocals
Recorded at the practice space

I know she's a cracker
There's no need to attack her
Fallen on good times
Behind enemy lines

Big pressure on the eardrum
Head, lung, chamber heart
Deep deeper in the trench now
Head down, ocean up

A catalog of woes
Grows and grows
Bed and a breakfast
Overhanging a precipice

Big trouble on the surface
Clueless down below
Pan panic on the surface
And over they go now

They'll fall down deep, Marianas T
To the bottom of the sea
Where they'll wait for someone
But someone never comes

Miss orion
I'm watching you on
The television
It's been way too long

Big planning from the armchair
Don't care what goes wrong
Come on, come on
It's been way too long

Let's fall down deep, Marianas T
To the bottom of the sea
With the waves up above
Forget who you're thinking of

Jostling back and forth, cast my mind back
To when these tracks were new
But everything gets warped given time enough
And I've had time enough with you
Nothing new to report, and it occurs to me to wonder again
Why we're having this private conversation on public transportation

Corollarily Marianas T is not the place for me
When the coral cuts my feet, miss orion's mean
She don't care about me
And I'm tired all the time, I'm tired all the time
And I'm tired of wasting so much time
Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye

On My Head  (Creighton)

Will Courtney - vocals
Aaron Ballard - vocals
Andy Creighton - vocals, kbd
Recorded at the practice space

Here I sit, outside myself
Put my worries on the shelf
Drift away out past the cold and lies
Wash ashore, an unnamed coast
Where there's no guilt and there's no ghosts
Far away from everything that lies
On my head

Too much time was spent on you
My grace wears thin, I love you too
Just enough to make it for a while
Casting out, a note washed in
Said send me help or do me in
But I could not decide and now it lies
On my head

Singing
I'll be gone tomorrow
You'll be fine when I finally go
And raise a glass to sorrow
I'm happy to do my part
Though you pound on my door
I'm immune to your cries
'Cause I'm tied up inside beside all that lies
On my head

VIP600  (Lee/Niimi)

Andy Creighton - instruments & vocals
Recorded at the practice space

Walked past a thrift store
And opened the door
Went 'round to the back
Underneath the clothes rack
Looking for a moog
Or some clothes in vogue
Pulling back a tarp
Thought it was an arp

VIP600, I love you so
VIP six double-aught
You're not what I sought

Brought you back to my place
Dressed you up in lace
Put on my fave mix
Best of brazil '66
Then we started to dance
And I ripped my pants
We held each other tight
Through the tijuana night

VIP600, I love you so
VIP six double-aught
You're the only pal I've got

You're the only pal I've got

When we went hungry
You wanted sushi
I said where are we?
You said miami
You always stare at the moon
And you never played in tune
VIP six aught aught
You're not what I bought

VIP600, I love you so
VIP six double-aught
You're not what I sought
VIP600, I love you so
VIP six double-aught
You're not what I bought

Carolina  (Creighton)

Andy Creighton - instruments & vocals
Recorded at the practice space

Carolina won't work out
Don't go back to Carolina
Conversations don't go right
You're not listening Carolina

Don't you want to come out
Can't you let your pride down
Time to leave her dark house for good

Follow the white dotted lines
Will help to decide not to turn around
All the evenly spaced lights
Will help to decide not to turn around
The hum of the engine inside
Will help to decide to hold your ground

Pull up slowly her dark house
Call up softly Carolina

Jogging Suit  (Creighton)

Andy Creighton - instruments & vocals
Recorded at Eddie Moffett's apartment

Shuffling through the hanging shirts
Three quarters to the back there it is
Does it taunt me
I knew you couldn't keep it going
Do I imagine that it beholds me with a silent contempt
It doesn't matter 'cause I'm going out to the steakhouse

Racing stripes, elastic bands
Drawstring hood, my jogging suit
Wore out my shoes under stadium lights
And city stars

It seems cruel to throw it away
Crueler still to let it sit
Give it a try for old time's sake
It almost fits

Stretching tight, racing stripes
Elastic bands, drawstring hood
Cakes of dust on shoulders lie
In closets dark, don't criticize
Just exercise, let freedom ring
Call all your friends, let's run away
Wear out my shoes under city stars
A golden head and a pumping heart
Imagine that, elastic bands
Run around, steakhouse bound
There it is, and there it is
My jogging suit, it almost fits
And a pumping heart in closets dark
Don't criticize, just exercise

Sunshine, Lollipops & Rainbows  (Hamlisch/Liebling)

Aditya Rao - vocals, gtr, tambourine
Andy Creighton - vocals, bass, kbd, drums
Recorded at the practice space

Sunshine, lollipops & rainbows
Everything that's wonderful is what I feel
When we're together
Brighter than a lucky penny
When you're near the rain just disappears dear
And I feel so fine
Just to know that you are mine

My life is sunshine, lollipops & rainbows
That's how this refrain goes
So come on join in everybody

Sunshine, lollipops & rainbows
Everything that's wonderful is sure to come your way
When you're in love to stay

Sunshine, lollipops & rainbows
Everything that's wonderful is what I feel
When we're together
Brighter than a lucky penny
When you're near the rain just disappears dear
And I feel so fine
Just to know that you are mine

My life is sunshine, lollipops & rainbows
That's how this refrain goes
So come on join in everybody

Sunshine, lollipops & rainbows
Everything that's wonderful is sure to come your way
When you're in love
You're in love
And love is here to stay

Correct lyric: rain cloud disappears dear
We couldn't understand the words and sang it wrong.
(sorry Hamlisch and Liebling)
